Game 6 - tOSU (Black Out Game!!)

Crush the Nuts!

I mean seriously, whose mascot is a nut? Their stupid mascot isn't even the worst part about them, it's the arrogance of calling themselves "the" Ohio State University. They capitalize "the" which is why I always use lower case letters!

That’s right, it is that time of the year again, time for the nuts from Ohio to invade Boiler land. The Buckeyes are riding a 22 game regular season winning streak and look like they are prepared to defend their Big Ten title, so let’s come to cheer hard for the Boilers to derail that title defense.

This game has been designated a blackout game so please make sure that you’re wearing black. The game is the prime time game on ABC and the black will really stand out on television. I also think that the mono-color stands do help to provide a distinct home field advantage.

In honor of our visitors from Ohio we will be dining on a truly Ohio food – Skyline Chili Dogs. Now, we’re not going to have the “mini dogs” that you find in the restaurants, but we’re going to have the authentic Skyline Chili so it really doesn’t matter what you put it on!

We will plan on meeting in the W lot on Saturday afternoon, likely towards the front of the lot. The W lot is indicated in green on the map below. For those of you parking in the IM lot it is only a 5 minute walk to the W lot, just think of us being on the way to the stadium! We have the large flagpole that extends to 20 feet, so hopefully you will be able to locate us easily.

Purdue 33 ND 19 (5-0)

That had to be the most unsatisfying win over ND that I have ever witnessed. I didn't think the team was very sharp in the first half and then they just looked like they were hanging on for the last 30 minutes.

OSU comes to town next week, but Purdue is going to have to give a better effort if they want to get a W against the bucknuts.

Game 5 - Notre Dame

ND football is O’fer 2007, Well The Bigger they are….

Yes, that is a Charlie Weiss fat joke, just in case there are any misunderstandings. The unabashed arrogance that Weiss has shown in his first two years in South Bend must taste awful as the filler for the humble pie he’s eating right now.

People often ask why I get so pumped up for this game, well if you have to ask you will never really understand. A short list:

1. Erin Piotek’s (http://www.nd.edu/~observer/09131999/Inside/0.html) wonderfully written piece of journalistic toilet paper for starters.

2. Realistically they are a competitor for recruits in this area and beating them means more top notch recruits.

3. "The Shirt"

4. The bottom line though is that this is a rivalry game, and seeing goobers like these guys cry when their beloved Irish lose is just so much fun:


We’re doing our annual Oktoberfest tailgate this week complete with brats, German potato salad, deep fried kraut balls, German beer, and Andy Bauer in leather shorts! Andy however will not be alone, as I too will be sporting the traditional Lederhosen.

Purdue 45 Minnesota 31 (4-0)

Didn't see the game because I was at Oktoberfest, but sounds like a repeat of the CMU game where we raced to a big lead and the defense gave up a bunch of points in the second half! Can't have that every week guys!

ND comes to town 0-4 next week, I'm betting ABC won't be making that the 3:30 game. :-)

Purdue 45 - CMU 22 (3-0)

Sloppy win today, but a win none the less. Five turnovers by the offense and three touchdown drives allowed by the D in the second half give me some cause for concern. The worst news of the day though was that the Boilers lost starting tailback Jaycen Taylor to a broken arm. He looks to be done for the year! GUH!

Had a great tailgate and it was "grandma's" (one of our seatmates) birthday. She very much enjoyed her Stone Told Tailgating Club Manhattan!

Game 3 - CMU

Family Day!

This week we welcome the Chippewas of Central Michigan to Lafayette for another MAC smack down! The pundits are predicting that CMU will finish at the bottom of the MAC so I don’t see this as a huge challenge, but we do have a history of underperforming against overmatched foes early in the season. Add to this the fact that the Chippewa’s just whipped Toledo (our week one opponent) and we may actually have a ballgame on our hands. Hopefully a dry one after last weekend's rain soaked mess!

It is also family day on campus. I love family day because you can clearly tell the age of the student by watching the parents. Freshman parents are fretting and worrying about how late their son or daughter was out last night. Then you have the senior’s parents who are just praying that they didn’t really see their son coming out of Where Else at 8:00 this morning already drunk!

Purdue 52 EIU 6 (2-0)

The Boilers won a laugher today against a clearly over matched I-AA team. The most notable event of the day was not Curtis Painter's record tying 6 passing TD's but rather the first rain delay since 1989! The start of the second half was delayed by an hour and the stadium was ordered to be evacuated due to lightening!

We actually left when they cleared the stadium - we didn't feel that the game was going to get much closer than the 31-3 halftime score.

Game 2 - Eastern Illinois University (EIU)

There's An IU in Their Name - That's Enough to Hate 'Em

Kickoff of the Purdue Football 2007 home schedule is upon us! We open the home schedule against Division I-AA Eastern Illinois University. The only thing that could possibly charge me up for this game is that they have and IU in their school name!

We will plan on meeting in the W lot on Saturday morning, but since this is our first year in that lot I can’t tell you where we will try to be parked within the lot. The W lot is indicated in green on the map below.

For those of you parking in the IM lot it is only a 5 minute walk to the W lot, just think of us being on the way to the stadium! We have the large flagpole that extends to 20 feet, so hopefully you will be able to locate us easily.

Purdue 52 - Toledo 24! (1-0)

Great time in Toledo for the Stone Cold Tailgating Club. Be sure to check the photo link to the right to see images from the weekend.

We had an issue (I forgot the charcoal grill) but it was easily resolved with the help of our fellow Boilermaker tailgaters. We also had a close encounter with a Boilermaker great from the past; Mark Herrmann was tailgating just down from us and we got him to autograph our Purdue tailgate chair! (Picture will be added once Coons sends it to me!)

It was a great party and a great game. Before the game I really felt like we would be facing a tough challenge but by the third quarter the control of the game was all with the Boilermakers.

There are no pictures from the golf outing on Sunday morning because nobody needs visual images of something that ugly! Let's just say that those of you that bet on Greg against the rest of the field - you won. Greg was competing against the best score among Grady, Tony, and me and I think he only lost 2 holes.

The Chicago boys ended up sticking around for the Mudhens game on Sunday and we had a great time. Nothing like minor league beer pricing! Keith and Chris settled in for those 32 oz beers at 6.50 a cup and were happy as clams!
