Game 8 Purdue 24 U of I 14 (3-5)
Two game winning streak, very nice indeed! We had a great time with everyone at the game yesterday and look forward to seeing everyone again in three weeks.

Game 8: Illinois
Two for The Road Anyone?
What a win last week! "Hope" is restored that we’re not the worst team in the Big Ten! The worst team in the Big Ten appears to be rolling into town this weekend and it would be great for the Boilers to take a two game winning streak with them for this upcoming road trip. It will be a cool fall weekend with lots of visitors so let’s gear up for a great tailgate and a big Boilermaker victory!
Purdue finally put it all together last Saturday, the offense held onto the ball (for the most part,) the special teams played well (twenty yard punts not withstanding,) and the defense stuffed the run and forced turnovers. This was the complete performance that we’ve been looking for all year long. Being an unrealistic fan I now insist that I see such a performance each week.
As mentioned, Illinois has bottomed out and Ron Zook is quickly writing his own exit from Champaign and Purdue will be the next chapter of failure. We will have plenty of Illinois fans on hand at the tailgate to witness their coach’s demise. Among the Illini visiting will be several “first timers” at the Stone Cold Tailgate, so welcome them with open arms. (Well, open arms and plenty of verbal jabs.)
In honor of our “first timer” Matt Pecorelli we are doing our “Dae....er Italian Delight” menu at the tailgate. We will have an assortment of antipastos, salad, and “make your own” pizza on the grill. This still fits in with our “school related” menus as Chicago (which is not its own state but is actually part of Illinois) is famous for pizza (all be it deep dish.)
We will plan on meeting in the S lot on Saturday morning, hopefully towards the front of the lot just like last year. The S lot is across from the Slater Hill and the Stone Cold Tailgating Club spot is marked by the gold square.
For those of you parking in the IM Gold Lot it is only a 5 minute walk to the S lot, just think of us being on the way to the stadium! We have the large flagpole that extends to 20 feet and an ambulance so hopefully you will be able to locate us easily.

Eric and his parents will be meeting at the house to ride in together to ensure that we have two adjacent spots. If anyone else would like to meet at the house they are welcome to but it is not necessary. We have room to transport up to 7 people from the house in the ambulance and Element.

Wow, what an effort. Great time yesterday, the Boilers didn't turn the ball over and scored the program's biggest victory in recent years.

Game 7: Ohio State
All American Tailgate
Wow, the “hope” is really draining out of this season isn’t it? I am doing my best to stay positive, but I’m starting to think that we will find new and creative ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory each and every week. To top it off we’re getting a blast of cold air this weekend with lows in the 30’s for Friday night / Saturday morning. We will definitely have blankets, hot chocolate, and heating devices out for the tailgate!
The football may not be great, but we’re on top of our tailgating game this year. Like I have said many times, we may not win ‘em all on the field but we’ve never lost a tailgate. (I contend that since we eventually got the grill started and ate COOKED hamburgers at the MSU game in 1999, it should be called a tie and not a loss for the SCTC.)
We will be celebrating our visitors from tOSU and their many "All Americans" by serving an All American menu of burgers and fries this week. I guess we have our own set of storied All Americans to celebrate as well, they're just in the "All-American Marching Band." We will of course have a full complement of alcoholic and kid friendly beverages available as well.
We will have several “bucknuts” visiting us for the tailgate party so don’t be shocked if you see some scarlet and gray around the tailgate. I have promised them safe passage but if they start spelling the state name all bets are off!!

Game 6: PU 20 Minnesota 35 (1-5)
I didn't see it, didn't listen to it, and really didn't even want to read about it once I saw the score. I spent the weekend in sunny and warm Mexico sipping fine Tequila, scuba diving, and enjoying the company of my lovely wife.
Hmmm, I wonder how many people are going to find that there are better things to do during the early fall? The consistent turnovers, the same dumb mistakes (based on the newspaper description of the game) please get if fixed Danny boy!

Game 5: Purdue 21 Northwestern 27 (1-4)
Excellent, we keep finding new and interesting ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! The display at the end of the first half was beyond dreadful, we couldn't seem to hang onto the ball at all. You don't win with 6 turnovers, end of discussion.
Danny Hope inherited a program scraping bottom for talent, so he's going to get at least 3 years before there is any serious pressure on his job but the decision making the last two weeks is inexcusable. I think he could be the right man for this job, but he has to get things turned in the right direction immediately! You cannot accept your offensive players turning the ball over like that. Say what you will about Tiller, but if you put the ball on the ground you got a seat on the bench with Joe.
Danny's final drive decisions (time out against ND, the spike on Saturday) leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. We've discussed the TO ad naseum, but what was he thinking giving up a down on Saturday? You should have run a pattern into the endzone with the instructions to Elliott to put it where only his guy can get it. You're still stopping the clock but you give yourself a shot at a positive play!!
Good luck to the Boilers in Minnesota next weekend, I'll be sipping margaritas on the beach in Mexico!
