I guess you could say that we achieved a moral victory in East Lansing last weekend by keeping it close with a chance to go ahead at the end of the game with the #2 team in the nation. Moral victories however do not count as W's in the standings. What does that mean? Well it means the leader of our esteemed football program still has exactly 1 Big Ten win to his name.
Additional bad news, two freshmen players (both of which were being redshirted) were arrested on possession of alcohol and weed on Saturday night. What does that mean? That means the football team has had 4x as many freshman arrested this year as they have had wins! Wah-wah.
Minnesota comes to town dragging an albatross of an offense, so there is hope on the horizon. They were shut out in Evanston last week and have struggled to put points on the board all year long. This could be another competitive game, lets hope our guys can find a way to break through and get that long awaited home Big Ten win!
For reasons that remain a mystery the Big Ten network has made this their afternoon feature game. That means a little bit later start to the tailgating. We are working on moving to the W lot for the remainder of the season so plan on seeing us there. We will have a new tent this week, a 10x20 one piece with a gold top. We also will of course be flying our Stone Cold Tailgating Club flag.
Our tailgate menu this week comes to us from our friends in Minnesota. We will be serving a burger specialty called a "Juicy Lucy" that is apparently popular around the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Essentially it is two 1/4 lb patties smashed together with American cheese in a pocket in the center of the patties. We'll be accompanying that with all the fixings and French Fries of course!

Elimination of the Colletto Level - It's now all Hazzel
I received a facebook comment today reminding me that Hazzel could not be as bad as Colletto. Since the Colts are playing like crap and my work server is down I had some time to kill. I decided to pull together some data to see just how bad Hazell has been.
Those of us that attended Purdue in the 90's think of that period as the worst in the school's football history. I'm here to tell you that you are wrong. While we were terrible we were not even close to being as bad as we area now. Colletto's teams played against a stacked schedule with 65% of their games coming against RANKED OPPONENTS. Hazzel has faced ranked teams in 25% of his games.

In other words, Jim won about half the games he was supposed to win and lost the games he was supposed to lose. Jim went 17-31 against the Big Ten, which is awful, but it means he was 7-11 out of conference with playing ND each year when they were monsters.
Hazzel has only managed to beat 2, count them 2 teams that were not FCS (Division I-AA.) As near as I can tell Colletto's teams never played a I-AA team. Hazzel came from the MAC and hasn't been able to even compete against his former conference going 1-3 against MAC teams and 0-2 against Conference USA. Out of conference he is 4-8 out of conference (2-6 against D1) and 1-15 against the Big Ten. Folks that is a travesty.

Bowling Green - Kegs 'n Eggs
Purdue Football 2015 is really starting to remind me of The Four Tops: "It's the Same Old Song." Darrel keeps claiming the improvement is there, the talent is there, but as you all saw last Saturday the results are not. The one thing that is different this year is that we're changing QB's in week 4 instead of week 5 as we have done in years past. Great move Darrel, I like the way you're thinking in only dithering away three games instead of 4.
This week we welcome in the Falcons of BGSU who thumped Maryland a few weeks back. The Falcons' offense is high flying, they score in bunches but they also give up a ton of yards and points. Hopefully Blough's first start will be a great one against a subpar defense.
We'll be doing our breakfast tailgate this week with all your favorites: pancakes, sausage, bacon, and eggs. We are going to plan on setting up in the W lot. We will have a smaller group but will have some special guests in the form of Purdue Bands alumni. The band is doing a youth engagement program that will give the kids exposure to the AAMB and will allow the parents some time to catch up at a tailgate!

Virginia Tech - Oktoberfest Tailgate!
According to the Big Ten Network "The Final Drive" commentators Purdue is the most improved team in the Big Ten. Whether or not that translates into wins over FBS opponents or not remains to be seen. Last week in spite of some frustrating moments against FCS Indiana State the Boilers took care of business and came away with a convincing "W."
Speaking of "W" it is not clear at this time but seems to be likely that we will be switching to the W lot (gold arrow below) this year. The D Lot (the golf course parking area that we have been in the last 2 years) is still going through reconstruction and is not suitable for heavy duty vehicles such as the ambulance. The final call will be made on Friday but plan to be in the W lot unless you hear otherwise. Please like the Stone Cold Tailgating facebook page and check that for updates on Saturday.
The W Lot has changed significantly since we were there 2 years ago; it is now a paved lot. We will attempt to park on the southwest corner of the lot so that there is access to a grassy area in addition to the tailgating area. The University has decided that they will be charging to park at the Northwestern garage, so be prepared for that if you're going to park a car on campus. If you are not planning to leave a car on campus I would suggest parking in the Gold Lot (lower left corner.)
Once you arrive in the lot the best way to find us is to look for the "Old School Boilermakers" flag that is shown in the right side banner of the blog.
On to week 3, we will be welcoming our first "premier" out of conference opponent not called notre dame since Oregon visited in 2008. We will be welcoming the Hokies of Virginia Tech for an afternoon kickoff in Ross-Ade. Now I know the first question everyone will ask is what is a Hokie? According to their website (I know, you couldn't possibly google it yourself), it is a nonsensical rhythmic sound to be used as part of their reworked college cheer after a name change in 1896. So a Hokie is.......well nothing I guess. We will have a couple of Virginia Tech alums joining us for this game so maybe they can better explain the origins of "Hokie" as well as why their mascot is a turkey.....gobble gobble.
We will be having our ever popular Oktoberfest tailgate this week replete with the beer and food you would find at the opening weekend in Munich. (Incidentally this weekend is the opening of Oktoberfest 2015.) In addition to having the German originals, we will be featuring a few American brewed Oktoberfest beers for comparisons sake.

Indiana State - Family Day
Hello everybody and welcome to another season of Purdue football! Everyone within the program is talking a big game about improvement, but I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid this year. I'm sorry but I want to see actual improvement on the field before I'm ready to believe.......4-20 speaks volumes Darrell.
We will be in the D lot again this year at the north golf course. There is a large rehab project going on at the course this year which means the tailgating space is going to be limited. We shouldn't have any problem getting both cars into the lot, but I'll post on Facebook if we were to get moved. Directions to the tailgate location from suggested parking spots can be found in the banner to the right.
We will be celebrating our second generation tailgaters on Saturday with our second annual Family Day tailgate. (We of course will continue this tradition as long as everyone can continue to make it.) We'll be hosting people at the house on Friday night as well, I even hear that Purdue Pete might be dropping by again this year.
On Saturday we'll be doing a scaled down tailgate as Paula and I will just be returning from a quick vacation. We'll be doing BBQ sandwiches, slaw, and chips for our menu. The kids will have the option of PB&J if they would prefer.

Bucket Game!
Two teams playing out the string in late November doesn't seem like something anyone wants to see right? WRONG! We're playing for the right to take this home for the next 12 months:
We will be making the trek to Gloomington to watch the Boilers HOPEFULLY show up and compete like they have been over the last two months, not like they did last Saturday. As I've said this is a small group so we'll be doing "Stone Cold Tailgating Unplugged."
The menu will be chili and hot dogs with an assortment of "warmers." I'll pack everything up in the car and head to Indy on Friday night. Schedule is below. We will be tailgating with my aunt and uncle's mixed group of IU and Purdue fans, though I would suspect we will be vastly outnumbered. I'll bring the fire pit but I won't be bringing the tent unless rain is forecast. If it is going to rain I'll probably trade out the fire pit for the kerosene heater.

Mildcats
Well we've reached the end of another home football season. We're at the point where we should be able to beat the teams that are at our own level so I expect a great showing from our Boilers this weekend.
In honor of our visitors from Chicagoland we're going to be serving Chicago style hot dogs as our main dish with lots of bad for you sides. We'll also have a few beers from our favorite Chicago brewers at Begyle.
We'll have all the needed warming devices as the weather is forecast to be on the colder side. We will also have warm beverages and mix ins to augment your body heat!
