Hope is Rising

The Boilermakers enter 2010 with a head of steam gained by winning 4 of their last 5 including victories against OSU, Michigan and of course IU. I really believe that Danny Hope has this program pointed in the right direction and the Boilermakers are going to surprise a few people this year. In parusing some of the national media previews, there are some who tend to agree with me.

While the defensive backfield will be a work in progress, the front seven appears to be top notch. Jason Werner did receive a medical waiver from the NCAA so he will be leading the defense in this his sixth year on campus.


On the offensive side of the ball new starting quarterback Robert Marve is receiving a lot of attention from the national media and seems to be the "real deal." The Boilermakers are as deep at Wide Receiver as any time in the last 13 years, but do have questions on the Offensive Line and RB positions owing to graduations and injuries. Losing RB Ralph Bolden to and ACL injury in spring practice could prove costly. Hope is an Offensive Line guru however, so I expect that unit to do well.


The home schedule this year is highlighted by visits from in state rival Ball State, Minnesota (Homecoming), Wisconsin, and Michigan. The last game of the season is where it all comes together though; the Bucket Game 2010. That game is slated for kickoff the Saturday AFTER Thanksgiving this year and promises to be an entertaining affair.


The Stone Cold Tailgating Club is planning our usual assortment of fun and delicious tailgates. The "club pricing" remains the same for this year; pay one price and it covers you for the season. There are also the lower membership levels as listed in the table below.


I really hope to continue doing some charity type events related to the tailgates this year. Last year we were able to donate 5 coats for "coats for kids," two full boxes of canned goods to a local food pantry, and $300 worth of toys for "toys for tots." In addition the SCTC was well represented in the Cancer Research Institutes Race for The Cure in April. Keep up the good work and please help us to continue to reach out to the community in 2010!


We will be doing some of our old favorites, including Mexican (an homage to the SCTC official vacation to Cozumel last May), Oktoberfest, and the ever popular Pizza Tailgate. For Homecoming this year we plan to try something a little different, we are going to be doing a "Pub Theme" tailgate complete with all your English favorites.


We will be parked in the W lot again this year as we have for the last 3 seasons. As most everyone knows by now we have the Ambulance and do not plan any "vehicle" changes this year. The one difference is that we have finally gotten our "SCTC" official tailgate flag. (Thanks Mom and Dad, GREAT gift idea!)


In addition to the tailgating package there is also a lodging package available. There are now two options for lodging as Jim and Sue Franklin have also purchased a home in Lafayette, IN for future use as their retirement home.


Why Lafayette you ask? Why not we always ask?! One reason is this will put them closer to Chicago (in addition to Paula and me being there, my niece is likely moving there with her family in 2011). I would also like to think that they decided to retire in the one place on earth that they knew their eldest son would be sure to visit 15 times a year.


With two locations I am going to leave it up to everyone to arrange their lodging each weekend by contacting Brendan and Dawn or Jim and Sue to make reservations. Please contact me if you need an e-mail address for either party. I think at this point everyone knows where The Fall House is, you'll receive directions to "The Stone Cold Lodge 1814" when you reserve with Jim and Sue.


The Lodging Package is detailed below and any revenues are put towards house upkeep, utilities, and improvement work. Each location will have a "bucket" for you to make your donations in to.


With a slate of good games this year, we look forward to a wonderful fall with everyone in West Lafayette! I really think that by October we will be discussing this year's SCTC Bowl Trip.

Basketball Homecoming 2010

I’m very happy that all of you have decided to join us for the Fifth Annual Purdue Basketball Homecoming, brought to you by The Stone Cold Tailgating Club. This is a great chance for us to get together and see each other after the long layoff after the end of football. This weekend’s game should be a great one against the visiting Illini. The game will have implications on the Big Ten title race and pits the most prominent members of the Gene Keady “coaching tree.” Come prepared to cheer our Boilers on to victory!

As most of you know we have multiple lodging options for the weekend. In addition to the “Fall House” my parents have purchased their retirement property in Lafayette as well. Yes, I did say retirement property, my parents are retiring in a few years to the one place that they know I’ll visit them 15 times per year.

From this point forward I will not be arranging lodging for everyone, I would like for each of you to set up lodging individually by e-mailing either Dawn West or Jim and Sue Franklin. If you need their e-mail address please let me know and I will forward it to you.

If you’re interested in being a Sober Driver please let me know! We’re going to go to Jakes for pregame tailgating this year so that our underage fans can come along.

After the game we have an area reserved for us at Nine Irish Brothers down in the Levee area. I figured that we could have a few pints and some dinner after the game. What happens after dinner is up in the air!

Lodging Information
As established during the fall, it is asked that you place $10 per person in the black ice bucket at the house. This helps to cover the cost of utilities, snacks, and upkeep. If you are staying two nights it is $15 per person.

Tickets
Our seats are in Section 102 rows 22 and 24. (God help the people in row 23.) I will distribute the tickets prior to the game. I do have the tickets in a PDF file, so if you would like to have them e-mailed to me please let me know and I will get them out to you this week.

Toy Drive 2009

Not sure if any of the members are checking the site during the off season, but I will post this here anyway. As stated in my recent e-mail we are trying to get the Tailgating Club to do a toy drive for Toys for Tots this year, with the club matching donations.

Game 12: Purdue 38 IU 21

Great game in Gloomington yesterday, nice to end the season on a high note. In spite of the "would, coulda, shoulda" of this season I can't say I'm disappointed in the team. We ended up 4-4 in the Big Ten after being picked to go 1-7 in conference. The Seniors played well all year long and we saw some glimpses of great play from the underclassmen.

Thanks for everything this year and we'll see you at basketball homecoming in February!

Game 11: MSU

A Charlie Brown Tailgate

Sparty comes to town with Purdue’s bowl hopes still alive after the great win in Ann Arbor last weekend. MSU has been up and down this season, much like the Boilers, let’s all hope that they bring their “down” game this week! We’ll cheer hard for a Boiler victory over the green and white.

Normally we do a Thanksgiving themed tailgate where we deep fry a turkey, but I’ve decided that this year we’re just going to do a “Charlie Brown” style tailgate. We’ll throw together some hot dogs, hamburgers, some sides, and of course popcorn. I might even grab some cereal and toast. (Anyone who has actually seen the Charlie Brown special will know what I’m talking about.)

Instead of doing a Thanksgiving for ourselves we're hoping to deliver a Thanksgiving dinner to somebody else. I would greatly appreciate if you could bring along a non-perishable item to donate to the local food pantry's holiday food drive. If you bring it to the tailgate, we'll make sure it gets donated!

We will plan on meeting in the S lot on Saturday morning, hopefully towards the front of the lot just like last year. The S lot is across from the Slater Hill and the Stone Cold Tailgating Club spot is marked by the gold square.

For those of you parking in the IM Gold Lot it is only a 5 minute walk to the S lot, just think of us being on the way to the stadium! We have the large flagpole that extends to 20 feet and an ambulance so hopefully you will be able to locate us easily.

Eric and his parents will be meeting at the house to ride in together to ensure that we have two adjacent spots. If anyone else would like to meet at the house they are welcome to but it is not necessary.
