The End of Tiller Time


It seems only yesterday that “Cowboy Joe” rode in from Wyoming to rescue a downtrodden Purdue program. Joe has done so much in his tenure; I’m glad that he’s being given the chance to go out on his terms. So let’s band together for one last round before the end of Tiller Time in West Lafayette!

As Joe Tiller enters his 12th and final season at the helm in West Lafayette, Hope springs eternal. (Get used to it folks, the puns on Tiller’s replacement Danny Hope’s name will just keep coming.) Though we return little on either side of the ball, we have back the man that built the line that kept Drew Brees spotless on a lot of Saturday afternoons. We will need a little magic with the inexperience and injuries to the front line but I’m HOPEful (I warned you) that we can have a successful season.

The home schedule this year is highlighted by visits from Nike U……uh I mean Oregon, Penn State, Minnesota, and Michigan. The last game of the season though is where it all comes together; the emotion of Joe Tiller’s last home game, the beginning of the Hope era, and the quest to return the Bucket to its RIGHTFUL HOME in West Lafayette. I’m telling you its July and I’m already stoked to see us POUND IU. Last year’s game in Bloomington has left a bad taste in my mouth, let’s hope that our team lead by fifth year senior (and potential Purdue career passing leader) Curtis Painter and budding defensive star Alex Magee has a similar bad taste!

The Stone Cold Tailgating Club is in effect again this year; pay one price and it covers you for the season! The membership levels and costs are listed in the table below. There have been no changes to the pricing from last year.

We plan to once again be in the W lot for this season. The atmosphere and comfort level for everyone was much higher in the W lot and tailgating was much more enjoyable.

We lost the Purdue tent in a tragic turkey frying accident during the off season, (talk to Jim,) so we’re not quite sure what we’ll have as a replacement. I will let everyone know when we know. We will also be putting up the flag pole with an American and Purdue flag. Oh, and we are driving a hearse if that helps you to find us in the lot!


In addition to the Stone Cold Tailgating Package this year we are pleased to offer a lodging package. Brendan Less, the Regional Director of the Southeast Region, has made an aggressive play to be named to the Executive Board of the Stone Cold Tailgating club by purchasing a home in Lafayette. His aggressive play has worked, as I would like to introduce our new Chief Officer in Charge of Housing and Hospitality – Brendan Less. Brendan will also continue in his role of planning and executing any tailgating activity for games in the southeast region.

The house is approximately 2 miles from campus. The house will be available for both nights of game weekends at the charge rate shown below. The revenues from the Stone Cold Lodging package will be put towards house upkeep, utilities, and improvement work. The house is a bi-level home and the upper floors have already had some work done and the SCTC team is working to make the lower levels inhabitable by season start. There will eventually be room to sleep 16 or so comfortably. Right now there is a capacity of 8~10 people.

With a great slate of home games this year, we look forward to a wonderful fall in West Lafayette, and I look forward to seeing everyone again. Remember as always, GO BOILERS……errrrr BOILER UP!

Stone Cold Level - $55
(Rock solid, we're there every single week)
-Covers you for all games
- You pay your fee by August 31st, and you are "golden" for the rest of the season.
-You receive one Stone Cold Tailgating Club "token of appreciation"
- If you express an interest in providing the food for a tailgate you will be reimbursed for your costs.
- All tailgates will include main dish, sides, beer, and liquor

Itinerary Level - $18
(Travel to get to games, so it's Homecoming and Bowl Games only)
- Covers you for two games (example: Homecoming and Bowl Game)
- Pay day of game, or in advance of the game you wish to attend
-You receive one Stone Cold Tailgating Club "token of appreciation"
- May also prepay for the season, but you must indicate the games you will attend
- Can purchase 2 Itinerary level memberships per person, giving you 4 games for the price of 3!
- All tailgates will include main dish, sides, beer, and liquor

Colletto Level - $10
(Good for one game a year)
-No long term commitment
- Pay day of game
- All tailgates will include main dish, sides, beer, and liquor
- This will not be applied to people that just stop by the tailgate
- May also prepay for the season, but you must indicate the game you will attend

-Covers you for all game weekends
- Priority bed assignment

Basketball Homecoming 2008

I’m very happy that all of you have decided to join us for the Third Annual Purdue Basketball Homecoming, brought to you by The Stone Cold Tailgating Club. Unfortunately the University seems to be somewhat resistant to giving us official recognition on the scoreboard but there is no doubt about it, we have firmly established a new tradition! (I hope that everyone realizes that I’m being facetiously over the top in my comments!)

The team has been hot and cold this year, but that is to be expected when you play four true freshmen. I really think this team has a shot at an upper division finish in the Big Ten which would put us squarely in the field of 64 come March. At any rate, I’m glad we’re all going to be there on the 19th to cheer them on against the Illini. (Except for Anna who will be faithfully supporting her Illini I’m sure.)

Due to the size of our group this year (20 people) we were unable to get a block of tickets all together so we will be split into two groups of 10. (If we get 25 next year we’re eligible for group sales and will therefore be able to sit together.) I’ve shown the breakdown of who is sitting where in the section below. If people want to swap out we can do that day of game.

I have reserved rooms at the Union for us to share. I will work on getting us checked in before the game, but I don’t think the policy will allow us to do that. If I do get the keys before the game I’ll hand them out to you at lunch. We can all park in the garage across from the Union regardless of what your plans are for that night (staying or driving back home.)

Motor City Bowl Win

Well, it was a crappy bowl that ended a crappy season but it was a win. I hate to say it but I'm glad to see Dorien Bryant's last game as Boilermaker. He did some great things in Gold and Black but he also had a real bad case of alligator arms as was displayed on the 2 INT's that were credited to Curtis Painter but were actually Dorien's fault.

Looking to next year we're returning some good players on both sides of the ball, but we will be young at several positions. I'll look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Game 12 - Fight for The Bucket

And IU Still Sucks!

The last time the Bucket Game was contested in Bloomington neither team was bowl eligible; that was 2005. This year’s contest features two teams fighting for bowl positioning. I know that I don’t need to tell anyone to be ready to cheer, it is after all a rivalry game!

I think that this is the first time since 1980 that the two teams are both bowl eligible coming into the Bucket Game. It might be only the second time since the Big Ten changed the bowl policy in 1975 that both teams enter the Bucket Game bowl eligible. (Prior to 1975 Big Ten teams were only allowed to participate in the Rose Bowl, so teams could be “Bowl Eligible” but not participate in a bowl.)

The Bucket weekend has always been about tradition for the Stone Cold Tailgating Club, and part of that tradition is my Mom’s chili. We’ll be serving up a big pot of it on Saturday afternoon to keep us warm on what promises to be a cool November day. We’ll not be repeating the “tradition” that Tony started last year, that is to say we’re not bringing 40 oz bottles of malt liquor! We’ll be sticking to the usuals. One thing that is a tradition is hating IU, and we're experts at that!

We will be meeting at Jim and Sue Franklin’s house on Saturday morning to caravan down to Bloomington. (The second half of the Chicago crew will plan to meet up with us in Bloomington.) We will have 3 parking passes for the purple lot. If anyone is meeting us at Bloomington, we’ll be parked in the purple lot (entrance 10 on the map below.) We will have the hearse, the tent, and our Purdue Flag flying!

Gang Green Comes to Town

The Penn State game stunk, that’s about all I can say. Stupid penalties, turnovers, and bad calls from what can only be described as the worst officiating crew ever spelled defeat for the Boilers. I’m expecting our league leading third “official apology” letter from the Big Ten this week.

This week the Boilers welcome Sparty’s boys from East Lansing into town. This is a huge game for us in regards to bowl seeding. The best we can do at this point in my opinion is the Alamo Bowl but we have to win out. So come prepared to cheer hard to urge the Boilers on to victory.

This will also be “Boy’s Weekend II” of Purdue Football 2007. We had such a great time at Toledo that the Chicago Boys are leading the charge to West Lafayette on Saturday. Lets all hope that the results are the same as they were in September for this Saturday! Since it is boy’s weekend I’ve set the menu up to reflect that fact.

We will plan on meeting in the W lot on Saturday morning, likely towards the front of the lot. The W lot is indicated in green on the map below. For those of you parking in the IM lot it is only a 5 minute walk to the W lot, just think of us being on the way to the stadium! We have the large flagpole that extends to 20 feet, so hopefully you will be able to locate us easily.
