Game 1 - Northern Colorado

Rocky Mountain High Point?

The Boilers open this 2008 campaign with Division I-AA cannon fodder Northern Colorado. Now normally I wouldn’t be so blasĂ© about the competition given what happened to Michigan last year against I-AA defending champs Appalachian State but the Northern Colorado Bears are coming off three straight losing seasons where they went a total of 6-28. (They were 1-11 the last two seasons.) Needless to say I don’t think the Boilers will be tested too heavily this week.

The game will be a homecoming of sorts though for Bears head coach Scott Downing who coached the WORST special teams in the country during his tenure at Purdue from 1997-2002. (Anyone that doubts my assertion need only look at the losses at ND and PSU during 2000.) Given that Downing and Tiller are good friends I doubt we’re going to see a high scoring affair because Joe will call off the dogs long before we get to 50 points.

We will be doing our own version of breakfast club for the first game by serving up some “Denver” omelets in honor of our visitors from Colorado. We’ll pair that with a Colorado coffee cake. I am aware that Northern Colorado is not in Denver, but it's close enough!

We will plan on meeting in the W lot on Saturday morning, hopefully towards the front of the lot just like last year. The W lot is indicated in green on the map below. For those of you parking in the IM lot it is only a 5 minute walk to the W lot, just think of us being on the way to the stadium! We have the large flagpole that extends to 20 feet, so hopefully you will be able to locate us easily.

Please note that all times for itineraries are given in Lafayette’s local time. This will not affect the people coming from Indy, but for those of us in the northern reaches Lafayette is permanently 1 hour ahead of central time.
